FAQ’s about Membership

Am I eligible for membership?

Any person, firm or company which is engaged in the industry predominantly manufacturing goods using canvas, leather or allied synthetic fabrics, or which supplies fabrics or componentry or services to those doing so, for commercial, industrial, agricultural, marine, automotive, recreational, or domestic use, shall be eligible to apply for membership.

How much is membership and how can I pay?

Our membership rate is a tiered fee structure based on the average number of employees within your business. Find the current available rates below:

Fabricator / Installer (manufacturer / installer of finished product)


Supplier (textiles, components, equipment, services): 

1 - 3 employees $250

4 - 7 employees $510

8 - 15 employees $855

16+ employees $1,155

 Membership payments can be made online via PayPal when you submit your application form.

What if I am not a supplier or fabricator, is there any other type of membership I can apply for?

Yes, there are two other types of memberships - Associate and Affiliate.

An Associate member is any person, firm or company which is not qualified for membership of the Association but which is interested in the objectives of the Association and shall be eligible for admission as an associate of the Association.

An Affiliate member is any person, firm or company which is a member of an organisation affiliated with the Specialised Textiles Association as determined by Council and may apply for admission as an affiliate provided such applicant is not a current member or past member of the Association.

Organisations currently affiliated with Specialised Textiles are:

  • Outdoor Fabric Products Association of New Zealand (OFPANZ)
  • Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI)

Associate and Affiliate members are not entitled to vote any meetings of the Association and have limited access to the full suite of benefits the association offers to full members.

How long does my membership last for?

All STA memberships expire by the 31st March of each year. The length of your membership will depend on which month during the year you became a member.

When is the best time to join STA?

You can become a member at any time of the year. If you join between 1st May to end of February, a pro-rata rate will automatically be applied via our online application form.

What happens after I join?

Once your application has been processed and has been approved by the Council of Management you will receive an email from our office confirming your membership. You will also receive a membership pack in the mail containing your Membership Certificate, Confirmation Letter and your username and password to access the member only areas on our website. 

I prefer to apply for membership using a form I can print, complete and send in - is that possible?

Yes, of course.  Click here to download and print the memberhsip application form. The form can be mailed, emailed or faxed to our office once compelted.
