Apprentice of the Year

Terms and Conditions


For LEVEL 1:  APPRENTICE ENCOURAGEMENT/EXCELLENCE AWARD entries:

  1. You must be registered with a recognised training institution for a Certificate III in Manufactured Textile Products or Cert III in Automotive & Marine Trimming Technology as an apprentice or trainee for less than 18 months. 
  2. Your employer is aware of and supports your application.
  3. Your entry is to be received at the STA office by at 5pm on Tuesday 9th April 2019.
  4. The measurements in the project must be adhered to. You will be judged on measurement accuracy and the quality of your work.
  5. All digital images of projects entered in the Apprentice of the Year Awards become property of STA and will not be returned to entrants. If your photo is copyrighted, you must include a letter of permission allowing STA to display and use the image and required photo credit information.
  6. Photos and information related to the winning entry will be published in Connections magazine and used in promotional material.
  7. The judging panel may elect not to grant an award in a category where they deem entries not to be of a standard worthy of this Award.
  8. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  9. Judging will be performed by a panel of STA members who have product and industry experience in all award categories. They will ensure that the entry submitted demonstrates ability to read instructions, measure accurately, cut and stitch neatly, pay attention to detail, accuracy of fittings, design and flair and finish. 
  10. Special Commendation Certificates may be awarded to outstanding entries other than winning entries


for LEVEL TWO, APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR AWARD entries:

  1. You must be registered with a recognised training institution for a Certificate III in Manufactured Textile Products or Cert III in Automotive & Marine Trimming Technology as an apprentice or trainee for 18 months or more. 
  2. Your employer is aware of and supports your application.
  3. Your entry is to be received at the STA office by at 5pm on Tuesday 9th april 2019..
  4. Your entry must be YOUR OWN design and ideally have commercial appeal. 
  5. Your entry must use no more than 1.8sq metres (10% allowance) of outdoor fabric material (ie: canvas, PVC, leather, shade cloth etc) 
  6. The finished article must include, an eyelet, buckle (metal or plastic), zip, velcro, press studs, sail track, webbing.
  7. All digital images of projects entered in the Apprentice of the Year Awards become property of STA and will not be returned to entrants. If your photo is copyrighted, you must include a letter of permission allowing STA to display and use the image and required photo credit information.
